Does anyone have a green solution for ant control? Black ants have taken over my place.

I know what works but it is so un-green that I cannot post details here, however, you must not go pouring petrol down their nests.
I have used the trick of mixing Borax with honey or syrup and diluting it with a bit of hot water but not too much. You then place it around in small dishes like lids off jars, the ants take it back to their nests and the theory is that they kill the nest. I found it does control them a but I think that they eventually realise and stop eating it. I've often wondered if changing the sweetener every month or so might help. Borax etc. also works on cockroaches.

This might be helpful, it has a few ideas which are common sense, however they do have some helpful hints on reducing them.

Hi Herby, we have problems with them. If they are outside I don't worry about them too much but if they come into food prep areas, we use watered down vinegar and spray the affected area and it sorts them out. They don't come back.

Thanks everyone.
Told the landlord not to put petrol down the holes, we decided to use boiling water instead. This worked for the few near the hole.
The main problem we're having is trails of ants going into the cracks of the walls of the house. I tried vinegar on them which worked for a couple of days then they came back. They've also started coming inside the door and going into the door handle.

Make sure there's nothing for them to eat, clean your dishes asap and make sure they can't get into your food pantry.
I read somewhere that they hate talcum powder, but that it doesn't hurt them - maybe sprinkle some around the window sills or walls where they are coming in?
I know it's wierd, but I always feel guilty when I kill ants, because they're such hard working little guys. I will go out of my way to not kill them! My husband thinks I'm strange.

I feel exactly the same way as you do! I really don't want to kill them but I can't think of any ways to chase them away without doing so. Will be SUPER grateful if anyone could come up with an idea to do so.
Bullants are taking over my property up here in forrestfield.. not so much in the house but under the bricks. They are digging out the sand and I'm worried that in years to come my whole house will collapse!!! Help!
